FAQ

Creating a Website Login account:

  • I don't have a username/password to login, how do I get some login details?

If you have never previously logged into the site then you will need to get a unique university code from your windsurf club president. When you have this click on 'Login' in the top right corner of the site then 'Create new account'. Complete the form in there and then you will be able to login to the site. If you are no longer at uni then contact the SWA webteam below.

  • I have previously given you my hotmail address and need to update it to be a non-hotmail one, how do I do this?

Once logged in then you can change your account details by clicking on 'My Profile' in the Usermenu. Please make sure you spell your email address correctly!

  • I have now left uni but want to still come to events as XSWA. Do I need to set up an XSWA account?

No, you can carry on using your old login account to book and pay for XSWA places.

  • I have changed unis, can I still use the same account to pay for SWA events?

Yes, just drop us an email with your new uni so we can swap you over in our system. After that you will be able to login etc as usual and your new windsurf club president will be able to register you for events.

  • I have logged in before on this site but now my login details don't work / I have forgotten my username/password, How can I be reminded of what they are?

This may be because you haven't logged in for some time. In 2006 the site was hacked and many login details were erased so first of all try re-creating a login account using the above technique. If this doesn't work or you have logged in recently but can't remember your login details then click 'Login' then on the 'Forgotten password' link.. Please note that if you use a hotmail address this will not work. If this fails to instantly send you an email then contact us using the form below with your name and uni.

  • I want to change my password / email / windsurf ability on the site, can you do this for me?

Technically, we could but if you are able to login then you can easily change your details yourself. Just login then click on 'My Profile' in the Usermenu.

  • I filled in all the form to create an account and it just took me back to the front page when I clicked submit. Was something meant to happen?

Try logging into the site using the username / password that you set in the form.

Event registration / Payment:

  • I logged into the site but where do I register for an event?

If you are a student and want to windsurf at the event then when you want to attend an event you must let your president know first. They will register you online and you will receive an email straight away telling you what to do in order to pay. If using hotmail you will not get this email so login and check the 'Event Payment' menu link and if registered the event will appear in the dropdown in there.

  • I told my president that I wanted to go to event 'x' and they said that they would register me but I have still not received an email saying that I have been registered yet, what should i do?

You need to check several things:
Has your president actually registered you for the event? If they are being slack then keep hassling them!
If they have registered you for the event then check which email address we have for you and check that the email  has not been caught up in your junk folder. Or if using hotmail it will not even get there...

  • I got the email from the SWA saying I was registered for an event but when I later logged in to pay the website said I was not registered for any events, why?

If you have left it too long after receiving the email then your place may have been offered to someone else. It is vital that you login and pay as soon as you get the email as most events have strict payment periods as they are so popular. Ask your president if they are able to re-register you as they may have some spaces still available.

  • I have previously paid for SWA membership but the website says that I need to pay again, what can I do?

When you paid you would have received an email receipt from Nochex. Forward this to webmaster at swa.co.uk requesting that we check your account details. Being a registered company we do have thorough records of any payment the SWA has ever received but these are stored deep in the system and take a while to trawl through to find your details so it is quickest if you provide the receipt.

  • I don't have a credit/debit card, how can i pay?

Firstly, how do you survive??
You are going to have to sweet talk someone into paying online for you with their card and then sort out paying them back.

  • I tried to pay but nochex rejected my card with an error that looked a bit like NXC8996457. What can i do?

In order to make sure you don't miss out on the event it is a good idea to borrow a friend's card to book your place. Then contact nochex through their website and ask them to sort it. It is not an SWA error so we are unable to help further unfortunately.

  • I am an instructor so can I pay less than everyone else and help out?

Each event is run differently so ask your president what the options are. For Aussie Kiss contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . They will require copies of your certificates and once checked they will authorise you to attend as an instructor. Until they have authorised you the instructor payment option will remain locked.

  • I paid online but now have changed my mind about attending/cannot make it, can I get a refund?

The SWA is under no legal obligation to refund tickets for any event once purchased. Trust us, one of the SWA directors works in a law firm.. However we want to help so make sure your president knows what is going on, they will hopefully find a replacement for you. We can then swap the details in the system and you can get the cash from the new attendee.

  • I don't know if my payment was accepted or not, how can I check and should I pay again in order to make sure I don't miss the deadline?

If in any doubt then do not try and pay again. It is better that you contact us early and we can check to see if we have received your payment. If you do pay twice and require a refund you will not receive your full money back as a small processing fee will be taken from your transaction. If in doubt, get in touch first!

General SWA Questions:

  • There is no windsurf club at my uni, can you help me set one up?

Chances are that there was once a windsurf club there but it may have folded in the past. We have records of which unis have ever had a club and can help you set up a new one with loads of advice and support. Just get in touch asap!

  • I have graduated from university. What can I do to stop the sky falling onto my head?

Fear not! Ex students automatically become members of the XSWA - and part of a growing network spread across the UK. Growing old is compulsary, growing up is optional. Click here for more information.

  • Our windsurf club president is really slack, can I get some info from you directly instead of going through them?

Maybe you should consider becoming the president next year? Get in touch and we will try to kick your president's rear-end but cannot promise anything. We can get you added to our president mailing list if you want so you can be a proxy president too.

  • I want to sponsor the SWA, I run an international windsurf brand and love you guys, how can I get involved with you?

We have many current sponsors already but always love to hear from other companies. Please get in touch via the link below.

  • Does the SWA make profit from events and why do I have to pay for SWA Life membership?

The SWA is a not-for-profit organisation so all the money received is put into making events cheaper, safer and better! One of the many ways we do this is by paying money back to unis in the form of grants for running events. Presidents can apply to us for financial support for running events and we will check out what they will be spending the money on then just give them a wad of cash for their event. The SWA Festival is obviously a huge financial risk to run each year so a certain amount of money is kept as a safety factor to prevent the SWA from going bust in a worst-case scenario...

  • How could I get involved with the SWA?

There are loads of different roles in the SWA committee, the team includes merchandise, sponsorship, media, events and web people so we can find something for everyone to do! We have current students, ex-students, postgrads and some people who are a mixture of all of those... Just have a chat with one of the committee at the next event and check out 'Join the SWA Committee' in the main menu.

  • Apart from running uber-cool events, what does the SWA do for me??

Where do we start??

  • Cheap deals on kit
  • Contact with other students and university groups
  • Events all year round
  • Holidays to summer locations for windsurfing and ski/snowboard trips in the winter.
  • Work in the SWA committee and get a proven way to enter into working in the UK windsurf industry.
  • Funky windsurf clothing ranges.
  • Discounts on Instructor courses
  • Loads of prizes from our kind sponsors at every event.

  • Who is that hottie in the SWA committee and is he single?

Oh that's probably beaker that you're talking about, yeah he is really super hot. To impress him try buying him a drink as soon as you arrive at an event, party hard and windsurf harder! He was in no way associated with the writing of these FAQ either...

  • I have been checking out the SWA website and have heard that there are some secret pages which only special people can find, is this true?
Absolute piffle, on no account are there any secret pages and even if there were we wouldn't tell you now would we!!!!
