New to Uni?

Meet your Future Windsurf Club President.

WHO is your new President?

With freshers weeks looming, we thought it would be a good idea to help you find Your windsufing club! This is by no means a full list of all the clubs (as some president’s have been abroad and so not answering emails) but it is a good start, and hopefully will give you a friendly face to find at your freshers fair.

Hi guys, my name is Filip, representing the Southampton University Windsurfing Club (SUWC), the largest student windsurfing club in the country.
We sail all along the south coast from the Witterings, through Hayling Island to Boscome, Poole Harbour, and Kimmeridge bay. What we lack in equipment and money, we definitely make up for in spirit and our love of cross-dressing... Always up for wearing a mini skirt and a pair of size 12 heels…

Hey there I'm Duncan Co-president of Liverpool university windsurfing club. During the year we have weekly sessions at Crosby marina, they have amazing facilities (the showers are always warm). Some of the more experienced windsurfers go to West Kirby for it's legendary flat water. We are a very welcoming club and not only do we love to get the neoprene on but we also love to get the lash on. We make sure we attend all the core SWA events throughout the year. So why not come down and give it a go. If you have any questions don't hesitate to send us an e-mail and I’ll get back to you asap. Easy Duncan

I am Lucy I started windsurfing in my first year and am improving slowly! We sail at Edgbaston reservoir which is just a 5 minute train ride from uni, and have a range of abilities from beginner to advanced. One of the biggest aims of the club is to introduce people to windsurfing as Birmingham is not known for its wind and waves! We just have a laid back attitude and make the most of what we've got.

Solent windsurf is a small team who arrived on the SWA scene 2 years ago. In this short time we have developed a reputation for being small but powerful, in both the socials and the competition at all levels. This year Solent claimed the SWA freestyle, overall champion and team racing titles. But it's not all about all about being an epic windsurfer, having a small teams means a really friendly atmosphere and tips always on offer. This year the committee are on a mission to gain funding for beginner kit for the team, to allow members to get out on the water more often.

The new committee consists of Fi Allen, Milly Joseph (joint presidents) Alun Edwards (social sec) and Sareena Guthrie (beginners rep and chief photographer). Fi had dabbled with windsurfing prior to joining the team just after its creation and is now hooked, she is now taking part in intermediate SWA racing and is trying to master the foot straps. Milly joined the team last year after being inspired by the constant chat of how amazing the team and windsurfing were from her next door neighbours (last year's committee), she is now on the water at any opportunity and progressing quickly. Alun takes things to the next level, particularly when it comes to fancy dress and is always up to something outrageous both on and off the water. Sareena had her first taste of windsurfing this summer and is keen learn more, she also takes some great pictures of our sessions. We sail at a mixture of locations Poole harbour offers some great flat shallow water ideal for beginners as well as improvers. Calshot is a bit closer to home also with some lovely flat water as well as waves. We are super excited for the next year of SWA events and windsurfing, if your keen to get involved we have a facebook page - Solent windsurf-team

Hello Fresher UEA Windsurfers!
My name is Kieran Redpath and I am the recently elected president of the UEA Windsurf society. I am a second year English Lit student and have been windsurfing when I can for last 5 years, most of which has been done with the UEA Windsurf Soc. Hand on heart, UEA Windsurf is the best society I have ever joined. We’re a mixed bunch; ranging from hardcore windsurf enthusiasts to those who come on the trips for the social side of things and the BBQ’s! However one thing everyone has in common is every member of the society I have ever met is unbelievably friendly and chilled out. As a club we are looking to increase our profile by competing more in SWA events, getting lots and lots of grant money, running more trips, more tutorial courses and getting some REALLY nice equipment. These are our aims for UEA Windsurf in the next couple of years - however what we are all about is still the same – that is to get members windsurfing and make sure everyone has a good time.
See you at Fresher’s Fair

Aloha! My name is Holly Kennedy and I am the new windsurf captain for the University Of Glasgow. I have grown up by the sea and am a real water baby enjoying various water sports from a young age. I have grown to become a Professional Kitesurfer but don't freight windsurfing is still highly addictive. Our club at Glasgow is full of Windsurf, Surf and Kitesurf enthusiasts that all love to push each other, have great fun and are all very friendly. I hope to keep up the good spirits this year, get a few trips organized and encourage newbies to take part and learn how this sport and community will really make you feel 'stoked'. See you on the water. Peace and Love. Holly xoxo

If you've chosen to come to Exeter next year and are keen to get involved with windsurfing you've come to the right place! We're one of the most active student clubs in the country, in the best area for windsurfing, and aim to top 100 members every year.
I've been at Exeter for two years, as the coach last year, and have another two years to go. A traditionally strong club, since I've been here our girls have completely cleaned up in the Race, Freestyle and Wave series with Kirsty O'Callaghan destroying at BUCS and Jo Wright sweeping the SWA series. We also have a lot of other members getting involved and competing well in Advanced, Intermediate and Beginner levels.

In my first year we took over 60 of the 600 tickets to the first event of the year, Aussie Kiss.
It is our beginners and intermediates that make up the majority of our club, and are currently looking into as many ways as possible to get you sessions as much as possible. We have local lakes and estuaries to sail at and plenty of our own kit for all levels.
For those that are of a more advanced level there are loads of incredible spots to visit, from Bigbury Bay in South Devon over to Gwithian and near our Cornwall Campus wave guru George Simmons. We run our own wave event with Plymouth in the SWA wave series, go to epic events all year round for all abilities and even frequent the British Wavesailing Series.
If you've got any questions please get in contact.
Cheers

Hi, I'm Jack, and I’ll be heading the Windsurfing Club at Edinburgh this year, and will be making it the best year yet!
We have a great selection of beaches nearby and have a core group of members who are always itching to get out into the water.
If you've never windsurfed before then we're here to help you get started!
We'll be doing beginner lessons at a loch just outside of Edinburgh.
We're also investing in some new snazzy gear to accommodate for intermediate and advanced windsurfers.
Basically, no matter what you're skill level, we have something for you!
Come have a chat with us at the Freshers' fair, and even if you don't get into the water you'll meet a great group of people.

Hi I'm Sam and am president of Imperial College windsurfing club! After two seasons I've withdrawn to poking cells at the institute of cancer research, This however gives me loads of time London over the summer to make sure this years even bigger and better for the club. Were going to at least double the number of social events to compensate for the lack of visible water in London, arrange several beginner days, as well as make getting on the water at Queen Mary reservoir a regular feature. Finally prepare for ACC nights (if your a fresher and don't know what these are you'll find out soon enough :D). If your reading this and at another London uni who doesn't have a windsurfing club get in contact the more the merrier!

I'm Lizzie, president of the Loughborough Windsurfing club! I only began windsurfing at university, but have been involved with the club right from the start of my time at uni, and it's certainly been some crazy times! Our club is all about chilling out, windsurfing and the odd crazy SWA party here or there ;-) ! We have a wide range of abilities within the club from beginner through to advanced, all are welcome to get involved, whether that means actually windsurfing or just mincing around the beach in a wetsuit looking cool! This year we hope to keep up the Loughborough presence at all the main SWA events and have some sicktacular times on the water with some cool people!!

Hi I’m Dan. I've not been windsurfing for that long but I'm really into it having been fully converted to the 'dark side' after many years of sailing. The club is mainly about getting people windsurfing, making friends and socialising. Being an inland uni and a small club we're very much a beginner friendly club but the keen semi pros of are the kind of minds we want to attract to make a bigger, more enthusiastic club. Our plans for the year are to run more trips away to other locations and run more regular trips to the lovely lake known as Beaver. We've even got a keen academic member of uni staff who is super keen.

Hi I’m Tony from Bangor Uni Windsurf Club. We’re a dedicated core of SWA lovers who happen to windsurf a bit on the side! We have a great link with the formidable team at Colwyn Bay Watersports, where we run our beginner sessions, and for the more competent, the North Welsh coastline offers some of the best wind and waves around from Rhosneigr, to some less well known spots. Get in touch on the club email or find us on Facebook. This year will be awesome.
